Charles Bowles (1930)- Charles Bowles was known for his corrupt acts in politics. He is the first to be recalled from office as a mayor in Detroit and in the whole country. Support from the Ku Klux Klan, showed his racial side. The police officers that mayor Bowles had put to the force were all whites. This showed the corrupt acts that he had in the work force, not allowing any other race to be part of the police force. The acts of racism didn't force him out of his seat. What really put him in a tough position was when he fired the police commisioner becasue he had partially stopped the purple gang. This lead people believing that he was definetley corrupt because he didnt want gangs to be stopped in Detroit.
Richard Reading (1938-1940)
As soon as Richard Reading got into office, he began to change policies that would benefit his wealthy friends. He also put himself infront of the police officers and the people. When the city was in need of new police vehicles he said that wouldn't be happening because he needed a $6,000 limousine ($103,000 with inflation). He was corrupt because he didnt care that it was the city's money. He used it as if it was his to use for fun.
Albert Cobo (1950-1957)
As a mayor during the time the "Motor City" was going down he happened to incourage it. He didn't help the people with taxes. Hence why many people moved out of Detroit, they couldn't afford to live there. By the end of his term, about 150,000 people had moved out of Detroit.
Luis Miriani (1957-1962)
He failed to report his $261,00 that he had earned in office as income. He was spending the city money for his own purposes. For this act, he had to spend time in prison, 294 days to be exact.
Kwame Kilpatrick (2002-2008)
