City of Crime
When a city is in ruin, crime thrives and takes over. The Detroit 1943 and 1967 and riots are one of the greatest examples of that. This was one of the first times we were hearing about the new racial tensions and police brutality.
As Detroit continued to fall, the crimes only got more frequent and more dangerous. With all the abandoned houses in Detroit, graffiti and arson have been a big problem for the city. Due to problems in the Detroit Fire Department, many arsonists are not caught and keep committing their crimes. The burned down buildings have started to attract visitors that find beauty in the destruction, but this is a detriment to Detroit. Withover 70% of fires being classified as suspicious, many go uninvestigated because of the lack of resources that the city has.
Next to arson, robbery is another specialty of Detroit. From carjacking to burglarizing houses. A common tactic is to assault someone before carjacking them. Many citizens of Detroit have to worry about being carjacked while getting gas. With cars being stolen out of driveways, and rims and tires being taken. Residents doon't feel safe in their own homes.
Detroit's murder rate has droppped 13% over the last few years, but Detroit is still the second highest leading city for murder. On Huffington Posts Detroit Crime section, is shows horrifying crimes that are normal occurance in the city.
